Howland was active in both Boston & New York, this impressionistic painting depicts locals washing laundry in a river located in Ocho Rios (Spanish for Eight Rivers) Jamaica. The painting shows six brightly clothed figures by a river washing clothing, the short yet decisive linear brush stokes are applied in the impasto manner, the rest of the
